We’ve covered how to ‘not lose’ and the opposite, ‘how to not win’ so far this week.

Today is how you start a name when you already know an industry.

You do not need a 40-page model. You need a sequence that stops you treating a job as a ticker.

I want you to think about the domain you work in.

Whether you run a business or you are a professional, you work in a niche. You see things most people only read about later.

If you’re a doctor, you work in healthcare.

If you’re a doctor of psychiatry you work in healthcare + have deep and precise knowledge of a subsection of the psychopharma industry.

You have knowledge most people do not. That is not the same as a trade.

That can be edge. You see demand before the rest of the market does.

You could be talking with sales reps of a pharmaceutical company, or even part of the research gathering itself.

Work through these gates before you download anything.

The full sequence is in the file below. Read the three gates first.

Gate 1. Observation, not opinion

‘I think GLP-1s are big’ is not domain knowledge.

Our clinic cannot get supply. We switched X for Y and the reps stopped pushing Z. That is domain knowledge.

If you cannot name what you see before the market does, you have an interest. Not a window. Stop there. Theme only.

Gate 2. Slice, not sector

Healthcare is not a trade. Psychiatry is closer. The actual question is who gets paid when your observation is true.

The drug. The device. The distributor. The software around the workflow.

Write 5 to 15 listed names that sit on that slice. If there is no public vehicle, you have knowledge. Not a trade.

Gate 3. Does the market care?

If you read yesterday’s note, RNW had the story…

India renewables. Earnings. Almost nobody covered it. No flow. It went nowhere, then it got taken private.

You can be right on the industry and still not get paid. Coverage, ownership, volume, whether this regime even wants the slice. If the tape does not care, park it.

If you cannot write the thesis in one line a non expert could check, you will marry it.
